The Fear of Missing Out

The poll of 2,000 Americans who use social media found 77% felt food-related fear of missing out (FOMO), and nearly as many (75%) said they instantly crave food when they see it online.

To prevent the fear of missing out, half of the respondents (57%) have attempted to make recipes they found online, and on average, make four online recipes per month.

Fifty-four percent had their last social media-inspired meal within two weeks previous to taking the survey.

Social Media and Food

According to the survey, conducted by OnePoll on behalf of EnvyTM Apples, social media plays a significant role in the recipes people are drawn to make — on average, people feel the need to post their meal on social six times a month.

Nearly a quarter (24%) said they use YouTube and Facebook the most when it comes to finding trendy food inspiration.

Given the average respondent spends four hours of their day on social media, food content comes across their social at least seven times throughout the day. The average person follows at least 10 food-related accounts on social media as a result.

Some respondents wanted to go above and beyond just looking at food content. Sixty-seven percent would want to become a snack influencer if they had the chance.

“Many people often think you have to compromise taste and flavor in order to eat ‘healthy,’ but this mentality of thinking you have to sacrifice is often what leads us to crave the foods we deem ‘unhealthy’ and drives our FOMO when you see an indulgent snack on social media that you would rather be having,” said Ashley Hawk, dietitian, and Food Network star from the TV show ‘How Healthy Happens.’ “My simple advice to my followers and clients on how to combat this is to start with whole foods that are naturally delicious and use them as the backbone of your recipe.

“For example, instead of going straight for that slice of cheesecake, try a cheesecake dip and use fresh apple slices to dip with it. This allows you to still indulge in the sweet flavors we all crave, but the fiber and other nutrients from the apples will actually allow you to feel satiated and avoid overindulging.”

Healthy vs. Indulgent

The survey also revealed a decisive split for whether or not snacks should be healthy or indulgent.

For 61%, healthy recipes are appealing because of their perceived taste, while nearly as many opt for healthy recipes due to how simple they are to make (60%) and how easy it is to share with others (49%).

Meanwhile, 62% like the appeal of “indulgent” recipes — also for being simple to make (61%) and perceived taste (59%). However, 41% who prefer indulgent recipes like their inherent trendiness and Instagramability.

Sixty-nine percent find themselves “liking” and “favoriting” healthy recipes they spot on social media. By comparison, 63% like and favorite the indulgent recipes they see online.

Even when it comes to their own recipes, 73% admitted they spend extra time preparing their meals just to make them more picturesque for social media.

When trying out a new recipe, 46% of respondents enjoyed the meal for themselves but also shared the meal with their family (25%) or friends (10%).

“With searches for healthy recipes being just as popular as searches for indulgent recipes on social media, it’s clear consumers don’t want to miss out on either,” said Cecilia Flores Paez, Head of Marketing at EnvyTM Apples. “There is a real sense of FOMO when it comes to flavor, which is why taste is important to consumers—even when it comes to the purest form of snacks, such as an apple.”

Lenny & Larry's Breakfast bars

Lenny & Larry’s Cookies

I received a fun box of healthy cookies and protein bars from Lenny & Larry’s and I couldn’t have been more surprised at how good they are.

Lenny & Larry snacks

The history of Lenny & Larry’s

Lenny & Larry’s is a popular brand of protein-packed snacks, known especially for their delicious and healthy cookies. The company was founded in 1993 by two friends, and I love the story. Lenny & Larry’s was started by Benny and Barry. They call themselves two gym rats who are passionate about fitness and nutrition. The two gym buddies wanted to create a product that would help people stay healthy and energized without sacrificing taste. In other words, yummy treats that are good for you.

They started out as a small bakery in California, where Benny and Barry began making their first protein-packed cookies. The cookies quickly became popular among fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious consumers, and the brand began to expand rapidly. Before they knew it, they were on the shelves of well-known health food stores, including Whole Foods. Today, Lenny & Larry’s products are found in stores all over the world, and the company continues to innovate and create new products.

The Complete Cremes Cookies

Lenny & Larry's cookies

The first thing I tried was their Complete Cremes Cookies, chocolate flavored. This is the cookie you want to grab when your inner child wants an Oreo™. The Cremes collection is crunchy sandwich cookies with a cream center. Here’s the big difference between Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cremes and the popular brands you grew up with: They have 1/3 less sugar, are certified vegan, and made with 5 grams of plant-based protein and 3 grams of prebiotic fiber per serving. They are also Non-GMO Project Verified, and free of soy ingredients, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial sweeteners. Your other store-bought cookies can’t do that.

So, how did they taste? As my husband likes to say, they tasted like more. We devoured them the way we do our once-a-year Girl Scout cookies. I’m not sure if eating an entire package defeats the purpose, but that’s how we roll. What I really loved was no sick feeling afterward. I don’t do well with artificial flavors and chemicals, so these were refreshing to enjoy while not feeling loads of regret.

Lenny & Larry’s Snack Bars

Lenny & Larry's Protein bar

We also received Lenny & Larry’s snack bars. They each have 12 grams of plant-based protein, so you could consider them a protein bar as well. I have never been a protein bar person, so I was certain I wouldn’t like these. Wrong again. They call their bars the Complete Cookie-fied Bar. I love that because it is like a yummy cookie for sure.

We tried Cookies and Creme as well as Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. The bars are soft and chewy and are not lacking in delicious chunks of good stuff, like cookie bits and chocolate chips. We often grab granola bars at our house, but I will happily add these to the pantry instead, along with Lenny & Larry’s Breakfast Bars. Most granola bars are filled with high fructose corn syrup. The Complete Cookie-fied Bar is gluten-free, Certified Vegan, Non-GMO Project Verified, and does not include soy ingredients, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, or sugar alcohols. I am not a health nut (sorry, Lenny & Larry!); however, I am not against doing better here and there, and fun and easy snacks I can grab on the go like this are helpful.

Other Lenny & Larry’s Snacks

Lenny & Larry’s also offers soft-baked cookies that come in a variety of flavors, like chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin, and each cookie contains a whopping 16 grams of plant-based protein. They are also high in fiber and contain no dairy, making them a great option for people with dietary restrictions.

In addition to their Complete Cookies, Lenny & Larry’s also offers a range of other protein-packed snacks. Their Muscle Brownies are perfect for anyone looking for a quick and convenient way to get some extra protein into their diet, and their Keto Cookie is specifically designed for people following a ketogenic diet.

Lenny & Larry’s gives back

I am impressed with Lenny & Larry’s commitment to giving back. The company has a program called “The Muscle Movement,” which is dedicated to promoting health and fitness in underserved communities. They partner with local organizations to provide fitness and nutrition education, as well as donating their products to people in need. I am all for a company with heart.

Not only do they give back through charity, but Lenny & Larry’s has also been recognized for their commitment to sustainability. They use eco-friendly packaging and are constantly looking for ways to reduce their environmental impact. They are also a certified B Corp, which means they meet strict standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Overall, Lenny & Larry’s is a great example of a company committed to making healthy, sustainable, and delicious products. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast looking for a convenient way to get some extra protein, or just someone who loves a good cookie, Lenny & Larry’s has something for everyone. With their high-quality ingredients, innovative products, and commitment to giving back, it’s no wonder they have become one of the most popular snack brands on the market today.

Yasso frozen Greek yogurt snacks

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Snacks

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Snacks taste decadent, so you’ll never know you’re eating healthy!

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt treats

We had so much fun enjoying the sweet treats sent to us by Yasso. Anyone who knows me well knows I am not the best at healthy choices. I love to eat and if it tastes good, I eat it. So, when something comes along that’s delicious and not bad for me, I get excited about it. I’m far from 20 years old now and my metabolism is proof of that. Not fair.

Seriously, it’s difficult to find snacks that are both delicious and good for you. Fortunately, companies like Yasso are trending in the snack industry, providing consumers a healthier alternative to traditional ice cream treats. Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Snacks are the perfect solution for those looking to satisfy their sweet tooth without compromising their health goals. Regular ice cream is fine now and then, but if you indulge as often as we do, Yasso makes exceptional frozen treats that cure that sweet tooth craving without the usual guilt that follows.

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt snacks are low in fat and high in protein

They specialize in frozen Greek yogurt bars that are low in fat and offer 4-5g of protein per serving. The company was founded by two friends, Amanda Klane and Drew Harrington, who were looking for a healthier alternative to traditional ice cream. They combined their passion for fitness and healthy eating with their love for dessert to create Yasso, which is now a popular snack option for health-conscious consumers.

One of the reasons Yasso is so popular is because of the nutritional value of its products. Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Snacks are made with real Greek yogurt, which is known for its high protein content and low-fat content. This makes Yasso snacks a great option for those looking to increase their protein intake while also reducing their fat intake. That would be me. The struggle is real.

In addition to being high in protein and low in fat, Yasso snacks are also low in calories. A typical Yasso bar contains only 100-120 calories, significantly lower than traditional ice cream bars that can contain up to 300 calories. And if you suffer from some food allergies or have dietary restrictions, these might be a great option for you. All Yasso snacks are gluten-free and free of tree nuts and peanuts.

So many yummy flavors

On top of that good news, they offer fabulous flavors, including mint chocolate chip, cookies and cream, chocolate fudge, and strawberry. They also offer seasonal flavors such as pumpkin pie and peppermint bark.

I received Dark Raspberry Chip bars, which are raspberry with white and dark chocolate pieces. I am very finicky when it comes to sweet treats. I like homemade things and only a few ice cream brands. Sweets are something I can turn down if it isn’t good enough. Let me tell you…these are good enough. The dark raspberry is spot on and tastes of nothing artificial. The texture is as creamy as high-end ice cream. Then, as you bite into it, you get little nibbles of chocolates, and it’s absolutely perfect. My 13-year-old daughter dug in first and I thought she was exaggerating with her enthusiastic reaction. Then I tried and was truly blown away. These are delicious.

Next, we tried the Poppables they sent in two flavors: sea salt caramel and vanilla bean. I fell in love with the sea salt caramel. It’s a frozen, bite-size ball of sea salt caramel-flavored Greek yogurt covered in dark chocolate. One little poppable feels decadent because it’s so rich and flavorful. I love snacks like this because I only need one to satisfy my chocolate craving.

An all-around excellent company

I give these healthy snacks a huge thumbs up. I am so impressed at how this frozen Greek yogurt could have totally fooled me if I didn’t know what it was. The texture and flavors of the frozen Greek yogurt are more like a rich, creamy frozen custard.

The list keeps growing as to why I love this company. All of their products are made with clean, simple ingredients. Yasso’s Greek yogurt is never made with artificial growth hormones or antibiotics. For flavoring, high-quality cocoa powder and real fruit purees are used. There’s no artificial anything, and that includes flavors, colors, and preservatives.

Yasso snacks are not only delicious, but they are also convenient. They’re available at most grocery stores and are easily stored in your freezer for a quick and easy snack. I love that they are individually wrapped, which makes them a great on-the-go snack option. And for those with allergies or dietary restrictions, Yasso snacks are gluten-free and do not contain any tree nuts or peanuts, and they are also kosher certified, which makes them a great option for those who follow a kosher diet.

In addition to providing a healthier snack option, Yasso is committed to giving back to the community. The company has partnered with several non-profit organizations to support important causes such as childhood cancer research and environmental conservation.

In conclusion, Yasso frozen Greek yogurt snacks are a delicious and nutritious option for health-conscious snackers; however, anyone can enjoy them. I wouldn’t call myself a health-conscious snacker and my freezer is stocked with Yasso products. They’re the easiest way for me to avoid grabbing the high-caloric ice cream, and I feel good knowing I am getting some protein as well.
