Hi! I’m Melissa — mother to six grown humans, way too many cats, and a connoisseur of all things rich, buttery, and barrel-aged. I’m a professional writer by day and a food and wine scavenger at night… with the occasional dirty martini or Old Fashioned. My love of food came from my mother, who lovingly packed my lunches in grade school with homemade bread sandwiches and made-from-scratch cookies. Then, as I raised my little darlings, I did the same. Friends lovingly call me a food snob; however, I prefer the word selective.
As a writer and professional indulger, Butter, Bourbon, and Other Sins simply made sense. I believe many people miss out on the beauty of dining. Whether it’s a burger and fries or the perfectly cooked Filet Mignon, food is made to be shared and enjoyed together.
Butter
Listen, I know it’s cliché, but butter truly does make everything better. I try to eat as little processed food as possible, and I am forever grateful that butter is a natural food source. I use it daily and in many of my recipes. I also have a gym membership for the sake of my hips…go figure.
As you follow along, you won’t find articles riddled with guilt and shame about what you choose to enjoy at your table. No calorie counting and no replacing butter with margarine. (Do people still do that?)
Bourbon
Yes — women enjoy bourbon. We are few and far between, but we do exist. I became fascinated by whiskey several years ago while writing for a liquor website. My first taste was Angel’s Envy. I was a goner. Bourbon is more than a drink. It’s one of the most layered liquids your tongue will ever meet. Are you turned on yet?
Other Sins
“Other sins” covers all other indulgences in life… specifically travel. I am passionate about seeing the world. I encourage my adult children to travel as often as they can. Nothing teaches you more about yourself than waking up in another country or dealing with the myriad of things that can go wrong at an airport. My journeys revolve around food. I choose destinations based on the dining experience.
I am so grateful you are here. Sit back and enjoy some scrolling through recipes, articles, and reviews. Prepare to get hungry, thirsty, and a bit itchy to get out and enjoy life. Cheers!
